When a site takes longer to load than is warrented
by the type of data (e.g. text, graphics, etc.), it's usually because there
are so many people at the same site that the server gets bogged down.
One solution to this problem, and probably the most common, is to place
identical sites on several different servers, thereby spreading out the
load. Also, there is an added benefit to this practice when using
free hosting services such as GeoCities, Tripod, or Angelfire: most of
these services promote their member sites, thereby promoting their own
services, so by putting mirrors on several such servers, I can get substantially
more promotion for my site.
